What is patent Fallopian tube?

My Boobs Ache  May 21, 2011 – 03:24 pm

I woke up this morning at 5:34 a.m. wide awake. That’s so not me. I typically need nine hours of sleep, and usually my husband and dog are luring me out of bed with a cup of coffee and a sloppy lick across my face.

So, what’s wrong with me? I’m having flashbacks to my first, second and third pregnancies when I had Superwoman energy, bouncing out of bed at the crack of dawn ready to conquer the world.

Could I be pregnant? Wouldn’t that be exciting? Maybe not in my case.

There are certain symptoms I’m experiencing that are causing me concern.  My boobs are aching. I’m late with my period and I’ve been having sharp pains in my lower left abdominal area near my fallopian tube. That’s the tube that held my first pregnancy. That’s the tube that’s blocked. That’s the tube that caused me so much pain a few years ago. That tube cradled my fetus which kept growing and growing until it burst the tube. When my doctor did emergency surgery —laparoscopy— she was amazed by how much internal bleeding there was. So, I know that tube is out of commission.

My mind is swirling. I sure don’t want to be pregnant with another ectopic pregnancy. Ectopics are no fun. They occur when the fertilized egg attaches itself to an area outside the uterus. Most ectopic pregnancies occur in a fallopian tube, and are commonly called tubal pregnancies. But I like the word “ectopic” better. It’s more specific in my mind. More scientific and that gives me comfort knowing I can at least spell and pronounce the terrible burden that I am given to bear.

The task, then, is not to 'speak truth' to the king, or even to the king's subjects, but to learn from them, to contribute what we can, and to participate with them in common struggle for values we discover and uphold. It seems to me that those are the directions in which responsibilities of intellectuals should be sought.
