The Dead Sea

Welcome to the extremes.  In 2012’s 2nd quarter the U.S. 10-year treasury note touched a 220-year low of 1.45% on June 1st and cheekily waited until July 23rd, fifty-two days later, to break the new record at 1.42%.  That’s efficiency!  Always up for a challenge, the Dutch (not to be confused with the Danish) set a 500-year low on their sovereign yields in June.  German bunds, barring the post-World War I hyperinflation period, clocked 200-year lows.  French yields hit their post-1746 lows.  For you history buffs, Napoleon Bonaparte couldn’t borrow money so cheaply with the Empire Français covering 810, 000 square miles and the Grand Armée boasting 600, 000 guns.  Granted, Japanese bonds haven’t surged past their May 2003 lows, but when your 10-year sovereign debt hovers around 75 basis points, who cares?   The takeaway:  Pick a developed bond market away from the headline debtor Europeans in the 2nd quarter and you find yields that set multi-decade, if not multi-century, lows.  There’s no mystery why this is happening; the world is troubled and investors are clinging to what they think they know best, the debt of seemingly sound governments.

I think it's 110/55%

Has a really intersting herbal flavor. I like it on ice with tonic and a lemon squeeze. Pretty good straight and sipped too.
Supposedly a digestive made by Monks; I think the monks just got smart and figured out how to get away with getting their buzz on.
It comes in a green and yellow version and supposedly a rare third version thats 160 proof. (Though I've not seen that one.)
...green and yellow colors. And they alone supervise the low ageing in oak casks.

Yellow Chartreuse
Milder and sweeter than the famous Green Chartreuse, Yellow Chartreuse was introduced to the world in 1838. It also is presented in the traditional Chartreuse liqueur bottle embossed with the seal of La Grande Chartreuse."
