Buying organizational resources

Getting executive buy-in is a sham  April 29, 2011 – 04:46 pm

It seems that every conference I ever went to on intelligence, foresight or research had a track about “how to get executive buy-in” or “how to get a seat at the table” or “winning over the C-suite.” Today, I saw an article on this topic for the 95, 000th time, and it occurred to me to finally crystalize my point of view on this.

Stop trying to get buy in at the executive level Stop trying to win over the C-suite, you are wasting your time. And definitely stop give classes, webinars, and conference tracks on how to do so.

Here’s why.

If we are going to generalize about executives as if they are all interchangeable – and lord knows, that is most of business literature – then there are only two ways to win the confidence of top executives:

1. Do a very good job for many people in the organization over a long period of time, such that your work is perceived to be trustworthy by people up and down the hierarchy.

Lame Craigslist People

I'm getting sick of all the morality policemen on here who have to mutilate anyone who has a question about a modded system. Ok Ok we know....you're response is ALWAYS going to be "Try buying your games instead of stealing them." Ok we get it, you're a friggin saint and have never copied a VHS, audio tape, downloaded an MP3 off Napster/Kazaa/Bittorrent/Newsgroup, or stolen a candy bar when you w...an arguement that is totally based on subjectivity and will never be proven one way or another. What I can tell you is to LIVE AND LET LIVE. You're not a cop, and it's not illegal to discuss modding a system. This isn't communist Russia. So if people want to talk about a modded system, just let them talk in peach and worry about your own "sins and transgressions" before casting stones on others.

False. Even NASA cannot re-construct the

Saturn V because there are not complete plans. A lot of how to build it was know-how in the minds of the people who worked on it. There's an archeologist who has actually been buying old Saturn spare parts from around the country just trying to learn how some stuff worked. Stick to what you know or go kiss some more big government ass.

Thanks, but as I said, the LL will NOT do anythi

The LL hasn't done one bit of maintenance/upkeep on this building in the 5 years I've been here. They do NOT care about this building, and I think are just buying their time, sitting on their little goldmine, and will sell sometime soon and make a HUGE profit. In the meantime, since having a yard means alot to me, as do my plants out there, and feeding the birds, this is why I want to fix it myself. You think the LL would APPRECIATE my willingness to pay to fix this, so please don't tell me to deal with the LL as you do not know what they are like. They are completely insane. I am only here cuz rent is cheap AND I have a private yard. And don't say "instead of complaining then move out!", since as I said, I am willing to fix this myself. I just need to find someone with the know-how.

Your husband is a moron

No offense.. what exactly are you referring to by "lumber" ?? the long pine boards you see at Home Depot? First of all that stuff is not hardwood, it's softwood. Unless you're talking about the maple and oak at Home Depot and Lowes, which are hardwoods but rediculously overpriced. The other problem with that is that the stuff is not flat or straight. If you're talking about the construction grad...wered shaper depending on how much flooring you need.
If you don't have any woodworking machines or knowhow, you should buy your hardwoods from a dealer. You won't be "saving money" by buying inexpensive junk from the big box stores. It won't go down right, it won't stay down right and it'll look like crap a few years down the road. (not to mention make it more difficult to sell your home)
