More Job Choices in the Recovering Economy  February 12, 2013 – 04:41 pm

More Job Choices in the Recovering Economy It looks like the U.S. economy really is in recovery. And, while some analysts are still using the term “jobless recovery” in early 2013 for the overall job market, experts are unanimous in their predictions that the healthcare jobs market will shake off any lingering weakness and thrive throughout the decade.

Look for jobs close to home

According to NBC News, the healthcare industry should create close to 30 percent of all new jobs in the U.S. economy in the next couple of years. (The U.S. Department of Labor says that healthcare added 45, 000 jobs in December 2012 alone!). “It’s the biggest industry we have and the fastest growing, ” according to Laurence Shatkin, workplace researcher and author of “Best Jobs for the 21st Century.”

So what does all this mean if you’re a healthcare professional considering changing jobs or careers? For one thing, you may have more options right in your own backyard, says Steve Odell, CEO of Odell Medical Search in Plano, Texas.

“Of course, that depends to some degree on where you live and the level of your experience. If you’re at a very high level and live in a small town you may have to consider moving; there simply aren’t too many opportunities for director-level people in small towns, ” he notes.
