The basic geological conditions of Ake dam site were discussed in detail in the paper, then primary engineering geological problems existing analyzed and evaluated thoroughly including dam foundation, abutments and bank slope stability, riverbed leakage, overburden etc.Pointed out that the dam site is lying in a stable area and there are not aclinic or flat-pitching weak structural planes. The dam region belongs to a medium dissected alpine area with smaller scaled exodynamic geological phenomena and has no major impacts to the dam engineering.Medium to weakly permeable bedrock prevented major percolating in dam foundation and abutment, but the thick and strongly permeable sandy gravel and sand overburden has to get done with water-tight processing.
